New Hondas come in a variety of shapes and sizes to suit every driving need, family size and lifestyle. Two of the top-selling new Hondas are the Honda Accord sedan and Honda CR-V SUV. Both new Hondas offer ample cabin space, advanced safety technology and impressive fuel economy. While the new Honda Accord is fresh off a recent redesign, the current Honda CR-V is getting ready for a refresh in the 2023 model year. See the two new Hondas side-by-side to determine which new Honda is right for you.
Cabin and Cargo Space
While it may seem obvious that one is simply larger, you’d be surprised to learn that the 2022 Honda Accord has nearly as much passenger space as the 2022 Honda CR-V – 105.6 cu-ft compared to 105.9 cu-ft! Both new Hondas seat five comfortably with plush seating and plenty of legroom. If you plan on lots of weekend adventures or carry a lot of gear, the new Honda CR-V has more cargo capacity thanks to its crossover SUV shape and easy fold-down 60/40 split rear seatback.
The new 2022 Honda Accord has the edge when it comes to premium features, as it debuted its current generation in 2021 with the latest driver-assist technology, including Head-Up Display, ventilated seating and a Wi-Fi hotspot, plus Active Noise Cancellation. The 2022 Honda CR-V does offer a hands-free power liftgate on higher trims, making it easier to load up the trunk when your hands are full.
Both the new Honda Accord and new Honda CR-V offer heated, leather-trimmed seats, a power moonroof, power driver’s seat, wireless charger, USB ports, Honda Navigation, dual-zone climate control, and more. While both the new CR-V and new Accord have Apple CarPlay® / Android Auto™, only the 2022 Accord offers them as standard features, plus available wireless connectivity.
Capability and Efficiency
Both the 2022 Honda CR-V and 2022 Honda Accord give you choices for powertrain, including a hybrid option. The 2022 CR-V comes standard with a turbocharged 1.5L with 190 horsepower, or choose the more fuel-efficient hybrid with 212 horsepower. The 2022 Accord has three options: a standard turbocharged 1.5L with 192 horsepower, a turbocharged 2.0L with 252 horsepower, or the hybrid with 212 horsepower.
You will get the best gas mileage with the hybrid powertrain for either new Honda. The 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid gets up to 38 combined mpg* compared to 47 combined mpg** in the Accord Hybrid. The standard 2022 CR-V gets up to 30 mpg*, with the standard 2022 Accord boasting 33 mpg**. Both numbers fall an mpg or two when you upgrade the engine or add AWD.
Speaking of AWD, only the new Honda CR-V offers available Real Time AWD™ and towing capacity of up to 1,500 pounds. The new Accord is not rated for towing. So, if you tend to veer off the beaten path, the new Honda CR-V will perform better thanks to enhanced off-road capability and higher ground clearance.
Safety and Reliability
All new 2022 Hondas come with the Honda Sensing® suite of safety features, which includes:
- Multi-Angle Rearview Camera
- Lane Keeping Assist System
- Road Departure Mitigation System
- Collision Mitigation Braking System™
- Adaptive Cruise Control w/ Low-Speed Follow
- Blind Spot Information System w/Cross Traffic Monitor (available)
- Parking Sensors (available)
Both the new 2022 Honda CR-V and 2022 Honda Accord were named to Car and Driver’s 2022 Editors’ Choice awards. The 2022 Accord also made the Car and Driver 10Best list, thanks to its agile handling and peppy drive. The 2022 Honda Accord is also a 2021 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ and a 2022 Kelley Blue Book Best Buy: Midsize Car. The 2022 Honda CR-V is a 2021 U.S. News & World Report Best Compact SUV for the Money and an IIHS Top Safety Pick.
